Series Marpress

Marpress is an editorial based in Gdańsk, Poland, which has just renewed its graphic brand and wants to reissue three of its collections so that they adapt to its new corporate image and the current market. A complete new design, of cover and interiors, is made for the three series, all of them in soft cover edition. Student project made at Studio of Book design at ASP Gdańsk.

A simple and clean common aesthetic is created in the interior layout of the three collections. The two novel collections, Baltyck and Prosa, share the use of Alegreya typography, while the Maritime collection uses the Cambria font.

Working with editorial design in Poland provides a more global perspective of editorial design, since the Polish language includes characters and scores that do not exist in English or Spanish, which generates other stylistic and editorial needs.

Marynistyka

Books on navigation, the cover must use photography. A geometric game is proposed in which the image decomposes, which gives a certain dynamism to the composition, but obtaining a simple result. For the spine and the back cover, the use of color that varies in each book is proposed.

Prosa

Collection of novels, requires the presence of flaps and graphic design for the cover that can adapt to your next publications. A nonfigurative linear cover design is proposed, which allows the necessary variations to expand and unify the collection. The texts are shaded to improve readability and create tension with the lines that make up the background.

Baltyk

New collection of writers’ novels from the Baltic countries. It must have original flaps and illustrations, which should mark guidelines for future publications. A simple monochrome result is proposed using illustrations generated by superimposed layers of paper, created with Cinema 4D, which are made visible only by a play of light and shadows.
